According to the National Recycling Coalition, an arrangement has been made so that aluminum cans of Pepsi and Diet Pepsi will carry a recycling message, not just a logo. One of the messages to be found on the cans is "Recycling a single aluminum can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours." By the end of 2008, it is estimated that 7 billion cans will carry these messages.
And it's none too soon for aluminum. It takes only 5% as much energy to make an aluminum can from recycled content as it does from virgin bauxite. That's a whopping 95% savings. Considering that 185 BILLION aluminum cans go to landfill currently (which is 55% of the total consumption), the savings in energy is pretty signficant.
Pepsi's message coincidentally mimics the message found in all of our Bottles 2 Bags products which illustrates the energy savings in terms of hours of laptop usage. Our pioneering effort in consumer communication and investment, which we "thought" was a good idea, is fully supported by Pepsi's likely exhaustive marketing analysis.
Thank you Pepsi, for making a concerted effort to change people's habits. And thank you Pepsi, for telling us our message is on the right path.
